Subject: Howdy from WRAMC Fisher Houses
The Fisher Houses at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) provides
long-term lodging to military families, whose loved ones are seriously
ill; and/or undergoing surgery at the Army's foremost medical center.
Our current mission is to provide, free of charge, lodging to our
combat casualties and/or their families.
WRAMC has three Fisher Houses. Two of the houses have 8 suites
each, and the third house has 11 suites. A total of 12 rooms are
fully handicap accessible. The suites have at least one queen size
bed and up to two full size beds and a pull out couch in each room.
All rooms have private baths equipped with all amenities, to include
bathrobes and slippers. Additionally, the rooms have cable t.v.,
phones, with voice mail, alarm clocks, laundry baskets, and stationery.
Each house has a fully functional kitchen, inclusive of china, glasses,
silverware and pots and pans; a living room with library and computer
area; a play room; and a large laundry room. The houses have an
inviting yard where patients and their families can relax together
and escape the daily stress of being in a hospital environment.
We also have play grounds for our little ones to work out their
energy.
All of the above would not be possible if we did not have organizations
like the Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation, who has been
especially generous. The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation purchased, delivered, and hand placed
all the linens, laundry baskets, bathroom accessories, kitchen accessories,
guest bath accessories, and a wonderful computer so that our soldiers
and their families can stay in touch with loved ones, fellow soldiers
in the theater, and others. The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation has been instrumental in getting
Fisher House III ready for occupancy during the height of incoming
casualties in April of 2004. They continue to be a staunch supporter
of our operations. We have received many food items, cd players,
cd's, computer, and other life enhancing products for our soldiers
while they reside at the Fisher House.
Since 2002 we have provided lodging for over 226 combat casualty
families. Their average length of stay has been 8 weeks. We are
most grateful to Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation for all they have done for our military servicemen
and women and their families. The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation enables us to offer the
best possible Army Fisher House Program in the country.
With the Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation's assistance, we look forward to providing comfort
and care to many more families during a medical crisis.
